Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade's picture perfect life - hiding depths of despair

A devastating loss... Anthony Bourdain inspired me to be unapologetic & daring when it comes to food- thank you for the endless amazing stories about worlds unknown, your passionate connection to faraway people & using your voice to better humanity.

I found out the horrible news this morning that the vibrant, brilliantly talented chef was found dead of an apparent suicide in a French hotel where he was filming an episode of his popular show "Parts Unknown."

"He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together," Former President Barack Obama says, reflecting on the time he spent with the 61-year-old. "To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. We’ll miss him.”

Bourdain's death comes just three days after that of iconic designer Kate Spade, also by suicide.

We never know the depth of someone's pain and if it's just too great to bear. That is the hold severe depression has on a person. Many believe that they are not worth anything to anyone and are all alone in this world.

With the horrific news, people are left to reflect and what each of us can do to make a difference... take time to listen and talk with those you love. Even a small act of kindness can go a long way.

And we must remember that despite all the fame, fortune and happiness someone projects, it's not easy to outrun your demons.
